Connie Velez

2nd Grade Teacher

Bio

Hi! My name is Connie Velez and this is my first year at Aspire Tate Academy. I am very excited to be the new 2nd grade teacher working alongside Ms.Martus!

This will be my 7th year teaching, having previously taught 1st grade for 5 years. I was also an instructional coach last year at my previous school, supporting K-2nd grade teachers and students.

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, here in the community of South LA. I volunteered at a local elementary school near my high school and my love for teaching and children sparked. I knew teaching was my passion after having been a teaching assistant for 7 years with LAUSD. I went to California State University, Los Angeles where I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Child Development and a teaching credential. Soon after graduating I began teaching and decided I needed to stay in the community where it all began. I later also discovered my love and interest for reading and went back to CSULA to get a Master’s Degree in Education as well as a Reading Specialist Credential.

During my free time I love to spend time with family (my husband and my two children). I love to read children’s books and take my kids to the library. We can also be seen quite often going to the movies, as my husband and I are big Marvel fans (we do also like DC). I also love to sing and dance to regional mexican music while I attempt to learn how to cook.
